Congress Greenlights Legislation to Disclose Epstein Records

The Senate on this Tuesday quickly approved to legislation that will force the release of case documents concerning the deceased pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, following a overwhelming vote in the House of Representatives and a shift by the president and his Republican allies. The White House gave in after months of trying to block the cross-party initiative involving a scandal that has dogged the president since his comeback to the White House.

Unanimous Passage in Congress

The Senate acted by consensus, which needs acceptance from each senator but does not require a recorded vote, accelerating the process. Just before, the House overwhelmingly approved the bill on a near-unanimous vote.

The public have endured sufficient delay. Those affected have waited long enough,” Chuck Schumer said in a Senate remarks on Tuesday, before asking the chamber to adopt it by consent. “Reveal the truth. Allow openness to prevail.”

Next Steps

This legislation next heads to Trump for his signature. The president indicated on Monday that he would sign the measure.

Although Trump has for an extended period dismissed the uproar over the authorities' approach of the scandal as a “Democrat hoax”, he voiced approval for the legislation over the past few days, and announced he would approve it if it reaches his desk.

Support and Opposition

Opposition lawmakers, along with victims and their representatives who were watching from a House gallery, applauded after the bill was passed. The sole “no” vote came from a GOP representative, who expressed concern he was concerned the measure would reveal identifying details of individuals involved, potential suspects and others caught up in the investigation.
