Critical Role Campaign 4 Reveals the Fighters Party

From the very beginning of the fourth campaign, new Dungeon Master Brennan Lee Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a colorful mix of heroes, and a thrilling plot showcasing celestial beings, demons, and malevolent powers increasing in strength within the urban setting.

Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 lie ahead.

The Warrior Group Introduced

Episode 3 ended with a huge suspense moment and presented the initial group of heroes who will branch out from the central cast to embark on their own adventure, apart from the other two tables.

This warrior group includes Teor (brought to life by Travis Willingham), the agile character (Laura Bailey), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), Wicander (the player), and the mysterious adventurer (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given 13 cast members, it was clear from the outset that having everyone at one table would be impossible.

That’s why, the initial installments of Campaign 4 serve as an Prelude, weaving together the personal journeys before branching into three separate parties: Fighters, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Warrior Group

Per the Dungeon Master, the combat-focused party is for participants who enjoy a classically intense battle-oriented narrative style where peaceful solutions are scarce.

Initially, characters like the squeamish cleric the cleric might appear out of place, but the developments of the latest installment make it clear why these particular heroes are ideally matched for the combat party.

Why They Must Go

To begin with, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a violent first encounter with The Crow Keepers.

A former ally of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the narrative’s action—used the foes for his personal gain, entering the secret base, attacking the rogue, and swiping all the magical artifacts to sell off.

The antagonist then paid off his obligations and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in Gormalay, Timmony, north of the urban center, with Cyd Pridesire close behind.

Personal Motivations

Secondly, each adventurer has a individual motive to leave the city the metropolitan area:

  • Thimble, as the close ally and closest confidant, seeks vengeance.
  • Kattigan knows the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous place.
  • Tyranny and The healer, having defied his relatives’ demands to eliminate the target and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their position as important members in the powerful family could help the party access locations they usually can’t.
  • Moreover, Teor swore a life debt to The cleric for his deliverance and will now go with him wherever.

Pursued by Authorities

Lastly, all of them are hunted by the authorities that govern Dol-Makjar for a range of causes, making lingering locally dangerous:

  • The agile adventurer and The character are known criminals.
  • Tyranny and The healer turned against House Halovar and the army of fiends they are allied with.
  • The fighter is wanted dead by the clan.

This results in them little choice but to journey toward Timmony in search of the antagonist.

Future Episodes

From the latest episode’s follow-up content, we find out that the combat party won’t be around in the upcoming installment, leaving the other eight cast members to assemble the Questers and Planners groups.

Audiences can anticipate finding out which characters will be where in the story’s concluding setup installment, released on October 24.
